New Delhi is considering joining European projects such as Tempest or FCAS. The decision is based on its 2018 experience, when India withdrew from a joint program with Russia due to the aircraft not meeting requirements.

India is currently focusing on its own AMCA project and the purchase of French Rafale jets. Investments in a sixth-generation program could reach €12.5–16.5 billion, making Su-57 economically less viable.
